How I made it back

Broken but not Beaten

"When they [NASA] were soliciting applications for astronauts, they rejected people with pure histories of success and instead selected people who had had significant failures and bounced back from them" (Dweck 29).Imagine that Poly has a selection philosophy similar to NASA's. You are applying to Poly as an incoming ninth grader and have been asked to write a short reflection of 250-300 words on a significant academic or school failure and how you bounced back. (Not your personal life.)
Focus on what is important!

An important school failure is when I had a bad grade in seventh grade math. In seventh grade math I had went all the way to Thanksgiving break without checking my Engrade, and I had no idea how poorly I was doing. When I checked my Engrade I was embarrassed because i knew how to do the math, but was not trying my hardest. Once I saw how my lack of effort was effecting my math grade I started trying, and was able to get my grade up to an A. Getting my grade back to an A was not as easy as I thought it would be. Over Thanksgiving break I had to do all of my work that I had neglected until that point. I also had to redo three tests that I had done poorly on. Another way I bounced back from my bad grade was by moving my seat in class. I found that sitting next to people I do not always talk with allowed me to meet new people and stayed focused. I think that making these changes aided me in my further success in the class.
